Treating Acute Nociceptive Orofacial Pain (Post-Operative)
Ricky Rubin
The FIRST LINE analgesic therapy to treat acute (postoperative) nociceptive odontogenic or acute orofacial pain is to follow the “2-4-24” target dose (2 medications, 4 doses, within 24 hours). 600mg ibuprofen and 650mg acetaminophen every 6 hours for 24 hours for patients who can tolerate both medications. Maximum dose in a 24-hour period is 2,400mg ibuprofen and 3,000mg acetaminophen.
